Let's talk about money together

We think it should be easy to talk about money. It’s  one of the most important lessons you could teach your children. Setting healthy money habits is something they will bring with them for the rest of their lives. Here we have gathered some tips for getting going, teaching your kids that money is not taboo.

  1. Start early: You know when your child is ready to practise personal finance, but it’s probably earlier than you think. Practicing and learning to count with cash is a good way of visualizing money and values.
  1. Use everyday life: take advantage of the daily tasks to make an example, let your kids come to the grocery store for example. It helps to see money being used to understand how it all works.
  1. Encourage saving: A piggy bank for cash or their own account on a money app makes it easy to see how much money they have. By being able to see their balance they’ll understand that the amount can both increase by saving and decrease by spending.
  1. Talk about money: Just by talking about money in an openly and answering their money questions shows that you take them seriously. It also shows them that money is something that you can talk about.
  1. Show how it’s done: Show your children the value of money by being a good role model. Most children are great copycats and will do as their idols do. Just by minding your spendings and managing your own finances, you will show them how money should be handled.

By starting early, talking and practicing money, and minding your own finances your children will have a good start in their own financial journey. Teach healthy money habits and show them that money is nothing to be afraid of, money is fun!
